La Trinidad a downtown blessing
By Greta Huls/Canon for Communications
People of all ages dip their fingers in the baptismal font on the way out of Trinity Cathedral, Phoenix after its Spanish service on June 28. Greta Huls/Diocese of Arizona
PHOENIX - As I sat in the front pew, I closed my eyes and let the sounds of the familiar service wash over me. I was at peace, even though I didn't understand a single word (other than during the announcements: mucho spagetti and mucho macarrones y queso).

Students say the darnedest things...
By Matt Marino/Canon for Youth and Young Adults
PRESCOTT - Camps for junior high and senior high students are winding down ... and gearing up for the younger crowd. The Diocese funds Chapel Rock which has kept Diocesan youth (and adults) cool since 1931.
Things students said about this summer’s Chapel Rock camps:
I will remember this week forever.
The talks were really inspirational. I actually paid attention.
It’s like a concert when we sing.
The small groups gave us time to talk things through and help each other out.
I love the prayer stations.
Our Cabin Times (cabin discussions) were awesome!
My counselor was awesome!
The music was awesome!
Chapel Rock really, legitly, rocks.
I was raised not going to church. As soon as I get home I am making my family go to church.
Make it longer. Please.
I love Chapel Rock.
Indescribable. Life Changing.
Probably the best week yet.
I am so coming back.

Welcoming people with disabilities: Our joy and delight
By The Rev. Canon Timothy Dombek
‘Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me.’ Mark 9:37
Sixteen years ago this fall, our son, Jonathan, our only child, was born with Down Syndrome. The gift of his birth into our lives has been nothing less than an epiphany, an eye-opening revelation of a population to whom many, if not most of our churches are unprepared (or more likely, inadequately prepared) to serve. As a parent of a child with a permanent, lifelong disability, sometimes just getting basic services or simple approvals for your child’s participation in “normal” activities can be arduous. Social service agencies, schools, employers and other organizations swing between being a champion of your rights—or your child’s rights—and being the barrier to a better life, education or therapy—sometimes all in the same week. The last place from whom families like ours need to deal with resistance is the church. But even the church is not above resisting the changes needed to accommodate people or children with disabilities.
