SCOTTSDALE - St. Anthony on the Desert Episcopal Church joyfully announces that they have called the Reverend Dorian Mulvey to lead the congregation as Rector. Mulvey, previously Rector at Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Seattle, Wash., will celebrate her first services at St. Anthony on June 28 at 5 p.m. and June 29 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. A reception to welcome Mulvey and her family will follow each service.

Dorian Mulvey"I thank you for the privilege and honor of being called to serve as your Rector," said Mulvey in a letter to the families of St. Anthony. "I was pleased to discover your support of many wonderful ministries and to hear about your dreams and visions for the future.

"As I think about the process involved in the search and call of a Rector," continued Mulvey, "it seems to me that it is very much like a dance led by the spirit. I trust that with the Holy Spirit's gentle guidance, we will step out together in faith and begin God's ‘dance' of ministry."

In a letter to the congregation, the Rector Search Committee noted: "We were seeking a Rector to help us explore ways to contemporize our worship experience, making it relevant and meaningful to both those who have grown in the Anglican tradition as well as those who are new to the Episcopal Church. The Holy Spirit has answered our prayer in allowing Dorian to hear our call."

The search committee feels that Mulvey is well suited to help St. Anthony achieve its goals to grow as a community of faith. "Dorian will enrich us as a faith community and allow us to not only reach to our immediate community of Scottsdale and Fountain Hills, but also help us each identify our own gifts for discipleship in the world," noted Senior Warden, Catherine Gilbert.

Mulvey is a 1975 graduate of Herbert H. Lehman College in New York with a degree in Economics. She obtained her MBA from New York University in 1981 and began her career in corporate financial analysis and planning with several New York companies. Then, feeling called to the ministry, Mulvey sought her Masters of Divinity at Seabury-Western Theological Seminary in Evanston, Ill., graduating in 1998. Her first position after seminary was as Associate Director, followed by Priest-in-Charge, at St. James the Less Church in Northfield, Ill.

Mulvey and her husband, George, have two children, a daughter, Marissa, a student at Western Illinois University and a son, Matthew, who will be a freshman this fall at Northern Arizona University.

St. Anthony on the Desert was founded in 1987, holding its first services in a local school. The congregation soon moved to a temporary building at the church's current location, and embarked upon construction of their first permanent building in 1989, followed by the Christian education building and sanctuary in the 1990's. In 2006, St. Anthony was designated a Jubilee Ministry Congregation for its numerous outreach ministries, primarily for "Walking the Mourners Path," our international program that assists those in all stages of grief.
